During COP25, governments and youth activists united for a historic moment to sign the first-ever Intergovernmental Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action, supported by the COP25 Presidency, YOUNGO, UNICEF, David Boyd- UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Environment on behalf of the Children’s Environmental Rights Initiative, Michelle Bachelet- UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and H.E Mary Robinson on behalf of The Elders.

The Declaration has been signed by 12 countries so far, and is based on priorities identified by YOUNGO and inputs from children and youth across the world. It is the first of its kind commitment from States to accelerate inclusive, child and youth-centered climate policies and action at national and global levels.

These developments reflect the passion and energy of the youth movement, which continues to demand more ambitious action, and that their voices be heard.

This special event will:

• • Highlight the commitments that States have made to advance children’s rights in climate policy and action through the Intergovernmental Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action
  • Explore how these commitments can be taken forward at national level and through COP26
  • Share practical resources and tools for youth activists that can help support implementation these commitments

Durante la COP25, Gobiernos y jóvenes activistas se unieron en un momento histórico para firmar la primera Declaración Intergubernamental sobre los Niños, Niñas, Jóvenes y Acción Climática, con el apoyo de la Presidencia de la COP25, YOUNGO, UNICEF, David Boyd, Relator Especial de la ONU sobre Derechos Humanos y Medio Ambiente en nombre de la Iniciativa de Derechos Ambientales de los Niños, Michelle Bachelet, Alta Comisionada de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos, y SE Mary Robinson en nombre de The Elders.

La Declaración, que se basó en las prioridades identificadas por YOUNGO y los aportes de niñas, niños y jóvenes de todo el mundo, es el primer compromiso de este tipo para acelerar políticas y acciones climáticas inclusivas, centradas en las niñas, niños y jóvenes a nivel nacional y mundial.

Está firmado por 12 gobiernos y refleja la pasión y la energía del movimiento juvenil, que sigue exigiendo acciones más ambiciosas y que sus voces sean escuchadas.

En este evento especial:

• Se resaltará los compromisos que los Estados han asumido para promover los derechos de los niños y niñas en las políticas y acciones climáticas a través de la Declaración Intergubernamental sobre Niños, Niñas, Jóvenes y Acción Climática.
• Se explorará cómo estos compromisos pueden llevarse adelante a nivel nacional y a través de la COP26, por parte de los Estados, las y los jóvenes y otros actores, -incluyendo algunos ejemplos de mejores prácticas.
• Se compartirán recursos y herramientas prácticas que pueden ayudar a implementar la acción climática centrada en las niñas, niños y jóvenes.
