Interview on environmental human rights defenders: UNIGE

17.02.22

Peter Bille Larsen recently took part in an interview with the Swiss Network for International Studies to discuss the issue of environmental human rights defenders.

The content of the discussion is based on a collaborative paper entitled “Understanding and responding to the environmental human rights defenders crisis: The case for conservation action”  which was awarded “International Geneva Award” 2021

Close to two thousand environmental human rights defenders have been killed in 57 countries since 2002, with about four losing their lives every week in 2019. As Peter Bille Larsen emphasizes in this interview, it is important that the conservation and human rights communities work together to address this crisis.
